Course Description

This STCW 2010 required course (MITPMI-15) examines fire fighting techniques and control of fire fighting operations with emphasis on organization, tactics, and command functions. Because of the intense management focus, this course does not incorporate any live firefighting activities.

This course satisfies the following STCW 2010 and CFR training requirements:

  • 46 CFR 11.201(h), and 11.303(a)(1)
  • STCW 2010 Section A-VI/3 and Table A-VI/3
  • NVIC 10-14 Guidelines on Qualifications for Master or Chief Mate on Vessels of 3,000 GT or More: 16.2.A; 16.3.A; 16.5.A; 17.1.A; 17.3.A.

Prerequisites- Must have completed an USCG approved Basic Fire Fighting course.

Suggested Courses/Skills- See NVIC 02-14 & 09-14. General good health and the physical ability to safely carry out rigorous activities during “live” fire fighting exercises. Fire-field safety rules require all students to be clean shaven in order to ensure a proper seal with the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

What You Will Learn

This course has been approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and satisfies the following STCW and CFR requirements:

·46 CFR 11.205(d)

·46 CFR 11.401(g)(1)

·The requirements of Section A-VI/3 and Table A-VI/3 of the STCW Code.

What You Should Bring

  • You will need natural fiber shirts and long pants (or coveralls) days 2, 3, and 4. No polyester! Half of each day is spent outside, even if it is raining, so be prepared! Students without appropriate attire will not be allowed to participate in the class.
  • In order to participate in practical fire fighting sessions, students must be in good physical condition with no medical conditions which could limit or be aggravated by heavy physical exertion. You will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire and disclaimer on the first day of class to determine suitability to participate in training. Fremont Maritime Services reserves the right to require a physician's examination where suitability is uncertain. 
  • Students should be clean shaven in order to obtain an airtight mask seal.
