Course Description

This course (MITPMI-548) is required for all Able Seamen upgrading to 3rd/2nd Mate. It focuses on taking action to avoid close quarters situations in accordance with the COLREGS and watchkeeping procedures, including BRM. Through this course, trainees will become proficient in the knowledge and understanding of safe Watchkeeping procedures.

This course satisfies the following STCW 2010 and CFR requirements:

  • 46 CFR 11.205(o) Formerly 46 CFR 10.205(o)
  • The requirements of Section B-VIII/2, Part 3-1 of the STCW Code.
  • STCW 2010 Code OICNW-2-1A
  • STCW 2010 Code OICNW-2-1B,
  • STCW 2010 Code OICNW-2-1C

Pre-requisites- Although there are no pre-requisites, it is highly suggest that you have had Terrestrial and Coastal navigation, Radar, and ARPA. These course are taught at MITAGS and PMI.
