Course Description
The purpose of this five-day, forty-eight hour Medical Person-In-Charge Refresher Course is to review and reinforce medical knowledge and skills. The ship's medical officer should refresh his/her's skills in order to provide quality medical assistance and advanced emergency medical care. The attendee will, within the past five years, have attended and successfully completed a USCG certificated Medical Person-In-Charge course that meets the STCW '95 standards. This course meets the Horizon Lines, LLC requirement for 5 year recurrent Medical Person-In-Charge refresher training for Licensed Deck Officers.
Persons Designated to Provide Medical Care on Board Ship.The MITAGS location includes one day of clinical practice at a local hospital ER setting. Dress code for the hospital includes: collared shirt and tie for men; business attire blouse for women; slacks; and closed-toe shoes. Hospital safety rules require all students to provide evidence of taking a TB test within the last eleven months, and the current seasonal flu vaccination. If required, MITAGS will provide this test and shot.
Pre-Requisite: Basic First Aid. Attendees are urged to review study material prior to the start of class.
