Course Description

This 5 day, 35 hour course of instruction is designed to provide qualified Deck Officers familiarization training in Bridge Resource Management and Voyage Planning in the  High Speed Navigation.This course will introduce attendees to the High Speed Bridge Resource Management and Voyage Planning and Electronic Navigation, examine the challenges associated with high speed and instill safe high-speed craft operating principles.

Pre-requisites-This course is designed for licensed deck officers, qualified military personnel and other properly documented mariners (MMD, STCW95, etc.)

What You Will Learn

• Understanding the need for a professional approach to watchkeeping at high speed
• Operating within a team environment
• Understanding and demonstrating familiarity with the typical maneuvering characteristics of high-speed vessels
• Constructing and using a passage plan as an aid to navigation
• Understanding the zone concept on high-speed routes
• Demonstrating the use of "North Up" radar presentation at high speed
• Demonstrating the use of parallel indexing to gauge target movement
• Understanding the rules of relative movement when making course alterations
• Understanding the application of the International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea in the high-speed context

Shiphandling course may be scheduled for morning or late afternoon starting times. Please check with the MITAGS Admissions department for the scheduled starting time of your course. If your shiphandling course is scheduled to start in the afternoon, do not make plans to depart MITAGS prior to the morning following course completion.
