Required Company Courses

In addition to the regulatory training requirements, MMP and Trust Companies have additional mandatory training requirements.  The requirements are dependent on the billet, company and / or service.  The latest Required Company Training list can be downloaded from this site or from http://www.bridgedeck.org/.  It is essential that you keep MITAGS informed of training taken elsewhere as it may be deemed “equivalent” to the required trust company courses.  MITAGS forwards your training record to Union Headquarters on a weekly basis.  You may miss a job opportunity if your training record is incomplete.  Remember, the Union cannot unilaterally waiver a company training requirement.

Eligibility

Qualified mariners, who work for companies that contribute to the Maritime Advancement, Training, and Education & Safety Program Trust (MATES) can attend courses at MITAGS and PMI, at no charge, for tuition, room, and board.  Additionally, some companies provide transportation reimbursement through the MATES Program.

For MMP affiliated companies that do not contribute to the trust, MITAGS has reduced room/board rates and other benefits.  Please check with Admissions.

"On behalf of APL Maritime, I would like to express my appreciation for the presentations and support provided by MITAGS during the APL Maritime Senior Officer Conference held four weeks ago at the Conference Center at the Maritime Institute (Maryland). This conference was attended by over 80 permanent Masters, Mates, Chiefs and First Engineers of our fleet along with shore side support staff from both coasts of the United States and by all accounts was a tremendous success. Your support during the planning and actual conference ensured the successful results. Yours is a quality facility staffed with true professionals."

Brian Peter, Director of Safety, Quality and Environment (SQEMS)
