 MCSE Network Engineer/Simulator Operator

The Pacific Maritime Institute (PMI) is a subsidiary of The Maritime Institute of Technology & Graduate Studies (MITAGS).  Our mission is to enhance the professionalism of the mariners through the development of quality maritime advancement, training, education, and safety programs.  PMI is located in Seattle, Washington.  The waterfront facility is located on Alaskan Way South and provides free parking.

PMI is currently seeking a qualified Network Administrator with desktop support experience. This individual should be a team leader and a team player with strong written and verbal communication skills.   The candidate should have a basic understanding of network schemas, Microsoft 2003-2008 servers in an Active Directory environment, Microsoft CRM, folder shares and permissions, data backups, virus protection, patch management, server and PC hardware, firmware updates, application installation, TCP-IP knowledge, CAT-5/CAT-6 cable installation and excellent troubleshooting skills for a variety of complex problems.

Duties are to include but not limited to daily simulator operator/operation of ship handling simulation in a windows environment, management of a small to mid-size Microsoft Active Directory environment on a day-to-day basis, end-user support, repair and building of custom PC’s, nightly backup management, weekly security patch installations, virus detection and removal, web filtering and firewall management, regular infrastructure improvements and upgrades, support and operation of simulation systems.  Additionally, the candidate will manage Microsoft CRM program on-site and liaise/troubleshoot with counterpart system at MITAGS.  Additional duties include overall facilities support, such as building security and fire alarm systems, interface with utility providers, such as telephones and internet, and other facility support tasks as directed.

A candidate with a background from the maritime industry, in particular vessel operations, would be highly desired as the familiarity and knowledge from this experience would further improve their ability to operate and support the ship handling simulators.  In addition, knowledge of telephone/communication systems and audio/visual equipment would be desirable.

Minimum requirements:

  • Background or degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field.  MCSE certified and 3 years system support experience preferred. 
  • Experience in installing, configuring and supporting an Active Directory 2003/2008 environment.
  • Strong background in hardware, software and LAN administration and troubleshooting.
  • Professional knowledge of TCP/IP protocol.
  • Ability to analyze, identify, troubleshoot and solve complex network connectivity, server and PC hardware and software related issues.
  • Office 2003 through 2010 application knowledge.
  • Experience with network switches, routers, firewalls and NAS equipment.

 

This position offers a highly competitive full health & benefits package and opportunity for great growth possibilities for the successful candidate.  Salary is dependant on certifications and experience.  Work hours are between 8am to 4pm (PST) with 24x7 telephone support in emergency instances.
