Course Description
This course satisfies the training requirements set forth in 46 CFR Part 13 and STCW '95 Section A-V/1 for persons desiring to serve in the capacity of Person-In-Charge (PIC) Engineer aboard a tank vessel carrying dangerous liquid cargoes. The information presented familiarizes the attendee with the operational practices, safety concerns, and pollution prevention requirements associated with tank vessels operating in the oil and chemical service industry.

What You Will Learn
- Planning, stowage, and computation of liquid cargoes.
- Understanding of cargo handling, transfer, and transport of dangerous liquid cargoes
- Reduce the risk of spill, contamination, migration, and accidental discharge.
- Respond to the threat of pollution or actual discharge with greater efficiency and a heightened sensitivity to the issues surrounding pollution incidents.
- Assess and evaluate risks common to the oil transportation and transfer industry
- Respond to non-routine situations and emergency conditions with an enhanced level of understanding and safety.
- Demonstrate an improved awareness and functional working knowledge of domestic and international regulation regarding the carriage and transfer of dangerous liquid cargoes in bulk.
- Achieve a higher level of understanding and insight into the role of the Person-in-Chargeand Assistants.
Students who completed the 40-hour Tankship, Dangerous Liquids, offered by the Maritime Advancement, Training, Education and Safety Program through the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies. This course curriculum satisfies the training requirements of 46 CFR 13.209, 13.309, 13.409 or 13.509 for a tankerman endorsement; AND satisfies the tanker familiarization, oil tanker and chemical tanker training requirements of paragraphs 1-21 of Section A-V/1 of the STCW Code; AND satisfies the training requirements of 46 CFR 11.227(d)(8)(C) for renewal of a merchant mariner credential endorsed as Tankerman PIC Dangerous Liquids.
