Course Description
This 9-day course is designed for land-based fire fighters who are called upon to provide shipboard fire fighting services up to three miles offshore. The program teaches ship types, arrangements and construction, allowing personnel to understand the basic concepts in developing strategies and tactics for shipboard fire fighting. Shipboard safety and water survival are emphasized throughout the program. Incorporated in this course are ship tours, live fire training, and command simulation exercises.
Pre-requisites-NFPA 1001 Firefighter II,Incident Management System Training,Hazardous Materials Operations
What You Will Learn
- Identify conditions within the marine environment that may impact or cause concern during the situation.
- Identify the role of the Fire Depart involved in marine incidents
- Identify safety concerns and situations and employ preventive steps for ones self and others operating in the marine environment.
- Identify and function with various vessel types and crews.
- Identify vessel construction and systems that may aide or hinder the situation
- Identify emergency and non-emergency access and egress points aboard vessels.
- Locate, identify and decipher vessel Fire Control Plans.
- Implement size-up of marine incidents based on knowledge of vessel construction and the marine environment.
- Implement, marine fire fighting tactics
- Employ effective communications in the marine incident.
- Function as a member of a Single or Unified Incident Management System.
- Locate and use a vessels Dangerous Cargo Manifest for ones self and others operating in the marine environment.
- Identify and organize resources available for marine incidents.
- Perform a Pre-Emergency Surveydentify vessel stability concerns and take steps to prevent or correct potential problems
What You Should Bring
- Closed toed shoes
- Clothes suitable for Fire Fitghing exercises
- Student must be clean shaven for a proper SCBA seal
