Course Description
Risk Resource Management for Pilots (RRM) goal is to enhance higher-level decision-making skills needed for optimal situational awareness: risk, task, and resource management. Research has proven that reality is the ultimate learning environment and full-mission scenario-based training attempts to get as close as possible to this ideal. Additionally, the course meets the American Pilots' Association (APA) recommendations for Bridge Resource Management for Pilots (BRM-P).
This course satisfies the following STCW95 and CFR training requirements
- 33 CFR 157.415 and §Part 164
Pre-requisites- Qualification as a maritime pilot or master mariner.
What You Will Learn
- Describe the factors that support good decision making such as situation awareness and risk assessment.
- Describe the factors that support situation awareness including elements of BRM such as planning, communications and error detection.
- Demonstrate techniques that enhance situational awareness.
- Demonstrate enhanced decision making skills in high stress situations
- Share best practices or known instances of consistent achievement of the desired outcomes
- Create indicators of successful outcomes
- Create strategies expected to lead to successful outcomes
Students who successfully completed a 21 hour course on the principles and practices of effective decision making including Bridge Resource Management as defined by the American Pilots Association, 33 CFR 157.415 and §Part 164. Topics covered include an overview of Bridge Resource Management, Regulatory and Industry Initiatives, Situation Awareness, Communications, the Master-Pilot Information Exchange, Risk Assessment, Error Detection, Culture and Diversity, Developments in Technology and Automation, Human Performance and the application of these elements; including industry best practices to mitigate harm and injury to the environment and vessels during piloting operations. This curriculum is approved by the American Pilots’ Association as satisfying guidelines for renewal courses in Bridge Resource Management for Marine Pilots.
