Course Description
This seminar presents the information necessary to satisfy Department of Transportation 49 CFR 172 and satisfies the three-year recurrent training requirement under Subpart H172.704.
This course satisfies the following STCW95 and CFR training requirements:
- 49 172 Subpart H
- 49 172 Subpart B
- 49 172 Subpart G
- 49 172 Subpart C
Pre-requisites- None,but it is preferred that the attendee beUSCG Deck Officer License or equivalent background and experience.
What You Will Learn
- Identify the general layout of 49 CFR part 100 to 185
- Identify the specific parts of 49 CFR part 100 to 185 applicable to transportation by vessel
- Comply with the requirements for training 49 CFR PARTS 100 to 185 as referenced in Subpart H – Training §172.704.
- Recognize and identify hazardous materials consistent with the hazard communication standards of Sub-chapter C – Hazardous material regulations.
- Comply with the Function–specific requirements of part §176-Carriage by Vessel.
- Identify the emergency response information required by subpart G of part 172
- Employ measures to protect them selves from the hazards associated with hazardous materials including specific measures the hazmat employer has implemented to protect employees from exposure.
- List methods and procedures for avoiding accidents when handling hazardous materials.
has successfully completed a custom one-day National Cargo Bureau, Inc. Shipboard Hazardous Materials Training Program offered through Maritime Advancement, Training, Education and Safety Program at the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies, comprised of training and testing in security awareness and general awareness/familiarization concerning the requirements of subchapter C, Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, including general information, regulations and definitions (171), training requirements (172 Subpart H), and function specific training on the use of the hazmat table and appendices (172 Subpart B), shipping papers (172 Subpart C), emergency response information (172 Subpart G), and carriage by vessel (Part 176), and an introduction into the IMDG Code.
