Course Description

This twenty-one (21)-hour course covers the training recommended by the U.S. GMDSS Implementation Task Force in order to achieve the Learning Objectives required by the Table A-IV/2 of the STCW code for Sea Area A-1 operation. A trainee successfully completing this course and passing the prescribed examinations will be able to efficiently operate the GMDSS equipment and have primary responsibility for the radio-communications during distress incidents. Training is also provided in the techniques to avoid the unintentional transmission of false distress alerts and relays and the procedures to use in order to mitigate the effects of such transmissions.

Students who successfully completed a 3-day (21 hour) course in Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems (GMDSS) for the Restricted Operators Certificate Sea Area A-1 offered by the Maritime Advancement, Training and Safety Program through the  Maritime Institute of Technology & Graduate Studies . This course satisfies the requirements of 46 CFR 11.205 (n) and Table A-IV/2 of the Seafarer’s Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Code.
