Course Description
The course is intended to be a 2-day, 4-day, or 5-day course intended to familiarize thestudent, with the operations and procedures of liquid natural gas tankers and terminal operations. It is intended for shoreside staff, and personnel not expected to directly handle or transport LNG. MITAGS offers a two-week shipboard personnel course and a one week terminal operator’s course, which are more intensive. Classroom training is augmented with opportunities for hands-on application using the cryogenic simulator.

- Basic understanding of the properties and hazards of liquefied gas
- Cargo containment systems
- LNG tanker design
- Inert gas systems
- Tank environment control
- Safety precautions
- Emergency procedures.
Students who attended the 2, 4, or 5 day familiarization course, presented by the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies, which is based on SIGGTO and IMO model courses and designed to provide the attendee with a basic understanding of the Properties and Hazards of liquefied gases, Physics and Chemistry, Gas detection systems, Cargo Containment systems, Ship/Shore Interface, Safety and Emergency procedures and Cargo Tank environmental control of Liquefied Natural Gas and Liquefied Petroleum Gas vessels.
