Course Description
PMI offers this course through its affiliate, Fremont Maritime. The cost of this course is $1,050.
This course combines the training for basic and advanced fire fighting into a convenient 5-day format. Students learn how to develop/implement fire plans. Practical portion of the course includes applying techniques to fight live fires and to lead fire teams. The course meets all of the STCW 95 and Coast Guard license requirements for basic and advanced fire fighting training.
This course satisfies the following STCW 95 and CFR training requirements:
- STCW95 Section A-VI/1, and Table A-VI/1-2, ‘Specification of Minimum Standard of Competence in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (BST Fire Module)
- STCW95 Section A-VI/3,and Table A-VI/3 - Advanced Fire Fighting
- 46 CFR 11.202(b)(2) - STCW95 Reference in the CFR
- 46 CFR 11.205(d) and 11.401(g)(1) - Basic and Advanced Fire Fighting for original license
- 46 CFR 13.201(e), 13.301(e), 13.401(d), or 13.501(e) - Fire Fighting for tankerman endorsements
Prerequisites-General good health and the physical ability to safely carry out rigorous activities during “live” fire fighting exercises. Fire-field safety rules require all students to be clean shaven in order to ensure a proper seal with the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
What You Will Learn
- Understand the basics of fire fighting responses to various types of fires
- Learn how to prevent fires
- Don and use turn out gear and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)
- Handle fire hoses / extinguishers to put out live fires
- Operate in near zero visibility conditions
- Extinguish flammable liquid fires using various types of fire suppression agents
- Organize and Lead fire teams
- Develop fire control plans
- Understand command and control techniques
What You Should Bring
- Closed toed shoes
- Clothes suitable for Fire Fitghing exercises
- Student must be clean shaven for a proper SCBA seal
Students who satisfactorily completed the 40-hour Combined Basic & Advanced Fire Fighting course offered by the Maritime Advancement, Training, Education and Safety Program through the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies satisfying (1) the Basic Safety Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting training requirements of Section A-VI/1 and Table A-VI/1-2 of the STCW Code and 46 CFR 10.205(l)(2);--AND – (2) the Advanced Fire Fighting training requirements of Section A-VI/3 and Table A-VI/3 of the STCW Code; --AND – (3) – the Basic and Advanced Fire Fighting training requirements of 46 CFR 10.205(g) and 10.401(g)(1) for a license; -- AND – (4) the Fire Fighting training requirements of 46 CFR 13.113(d)(2)(i)(A), 13.113(e)(1)(i)(A) or (B), 13.201(e), 13.301(e), 13.401(d) or 13.501(e) for any tankerman endorsement.
