Course Description
This course is designed in 2 1-day modules. The first day is an introduction to the environmental aspects of vessel operations and the basic structure of the marine regulatory environment. This module is intended to give vessel operators a broad perspective on the potential environmental impacts of their operations in order to gain a greater appreciation for why the permit has been required.

Students who satisfactorily completed the 14-hour course “Environmental Regulations and Permit” offered by the Maritime Advancement, Training, Education and Safety Program through the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies. This course of training covers Marine Vessel Operations and the Environment; the EPA General Permit for Commercial Vessels including application, compliance and general requirements of the EPA Vessel General Permit for commercial vessel. Specific areas covered include requirements for permit administration, management systems necessary to assure compliance, effluent limitations, corrective actions, monitoring recordkeeping and reporting.
